Recycling: Everyone Can Make A Difference
Recently Al Gore’s name has been popping up on the internet and in national publications. After a hiatus from the media it seems he is back in the spotlight. Many Americans are familiar with his groundbreaking
work on the environment “An Inconvenient Truth”, a book that deals with global warming and other environmental issues. Many of us have seen the film that tells the same story.
It seems to me that everywhere I look these days I see dire warnings and predictions about the end of life as we know it on planet earth. And while media hype is a potent force for brainwashing, it is difficult for me to imagine that human beings are going to destroy a planet which has been in existence for billions of years. It seems however, the environment that we humans have created for ourselves on the planet is in serious trouble. The planet will survive. But will we? And will we continue to survive in a thriving and life sustaining manner? Perhaps human beings are getting ready to morph into a new life form that will absorb green house gases in the body. Perhaps we are secretly developing a new type of lung for this purpose
in our sleep? Sort of like when fish
first walked on land and their gills
started to use oxygen? It could happen.
Couldn’t it?
All kidding aside we do need
to start paying better attention.
Everyone can do something to address
this issue. We are all stewards
of the land. It is just plain good
citizenship to be involved. Perhaps
this is the real step in evolution.
An evolution of consciousness that
addresses individual responsibility
and awareness. I plan on becoming
a better citizen myself by
becoming a better recycler. Where
I live we don’t recycle anything but
newspaper. But there are places in
Recycling: Everyone Can Make a Difference
the county where other items can
be dropped off. ( I just discovered
I pass by one such location every
Wednesday).
So I thought I’d share the list
of drop off centers from around the
county with readers of TradeWinds
so you can become better recyclers
too! And then we can all give ourselves
kudos and pat ourselves on
the back for being good stewards of
the land! How wonderful…..now
get recycling!
